Belize, Jungle and Reef

Maya temples and a sacred cave, then a week's worth of reef in three slow days.

Belize is two holidays stapled together and the trick is doing both. Inland is jungle, Maya cities and a cave full of 1,000-year-old sacrificial remains. Offshore is the second-largest barrier reef on earth. Three nights each, one easy transfer between them, and English spoken everywhere.

What you get

The whole trip, decided.

Not a list of sights. A route someone has already walked, with the bookings that need doing early flagged, the transfers timed, and the costs written as real ranges instead of a fantasy number.

Why this one

Worth the flight.

  • Actun Tunichil Muknal, wading and swimming into a cave to reach a Maya sacrificial chamber
  • Xunantunich at opening, climbing El Castillo before anyone else arrives
  • Snorkelling Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley with nurse sharks and rays circling
  • Caye Caulker, an island with no cars and a village motto of "Go Slow"
  • Fry jacks for breakfast, which you will think about for months afterwards

Best months are December, January, February, March, April, May. Expect around $1,300–2,500 per person, excluding international flights for the whole 7 days, excluding flights. The guide breaks that into stay, food, activities and transport so you can see where it goes.

How this stays honest

Checked August 2026

Prices, opening days and entry rules drift, and no written guide can outrun that. So costs are always ranges rather than quotes, every plan carries the date it was last checked, and the last page is six things to confirm yourself before you book anything.

I take no commission from any hotel or operator. You book everything yourself, in your own name, at the price you can see.
