Grenada, the Spice Island

Nutmeg and cocoa on the hillsides, a rum distillery running on a water wheel, and sculptures under the sea.

Grenada grows a serious share of the world's nutmeg, makes some of the best chocolate in the Caribbean, and still runs a rum distillery on an 18th-century water wheel. It also has the world's first underwater sculpture park and one of the region's genuinely great beaches. Five days is enough, and it's not overrun.

What you get

The whole trip, decided.

Not a list of sights. A route someone has already walked, with the bookings that need doing early flagged, the transfers timed, and the costs written as real ranges instead of a fantasy number.

Why this one

Worth the flight.

  • Snorkelling the Molinere underwater sculpture park, the first of its kind anywhere
  • Cocoa at Belmont Estate, from pod to bar, on the estate that grew it
  • River Antoine, where rum is still made using a working water wheel from the 1780s
  • Fish Friday at Gouyave, a street party in a working fishing town
  • Grand Anse, two miles of sand and almost no development on it

Best months are December, January, February, March, April, May. Expect around $1,200–2,300 per person, excluding flights for the whole 5 days, excluding flights. The guide breaks that into stay, food, activities and transport so you can see where it goes.

How this stays honest

Checked August 2026

Prices, opening days and entry rules drift, and no written guide can outrun that. So costs are always ranges rather than quotes, every plan carries the date it was last checked, and the last page is six things to confirm yourself before you book anything.

I take no commission from any hotel or operator. You book everything yourself, in your own name, at the price you can see.
