Guatemala, Volcanoes to Temples

A colonial city ringed by volcanoes, the most beautiful lake in the world, and a Maya city rising out of the jungle.

Guatemala gives you more for your money than anywhere else in the region. Eight days takes in Antigua's cobbled colonial centre under three volcanoes, Lake Atitlán and its Maya villages, and Tikal. A city of pyramids that rises above the rainforest canopy. It's also, by some distance, the cheapest country in this collection.

What you get

The whole trip, decided.

Not a list of sights. A route someone has already walked, with the bookings that need doing early flagged, the transfers timed, and the costs written as real ranges instead of a fantasy number.

Why this one

Worth the flight.

  • Antigua at golden hour, with Volcán de Agua framed in the Santa Catalina Arch
  • Watching Fuego erupt at night from a volcano ridge, which it does most days
  • Lake Atitlán by boat, village to village, each one distinctly its own place
  • Temple IV at Tikal above the canopy, with howler monkeys roaring below
  • Backstrap weaving in San Juan La Laguna, dyed with plants from the hillside

Best months are November, December, January, February, March, April. Expect around $750–1,600 per person, excluding international flights for the whole 8 days, excluding flights. The guide breaks that into stay, food, activities and transport so you can see where it goes.

How this stays honest

Checked August 2026

Prices, opening days and entry rules drift, and no written guide can outrun that. So costs are always ranges rather than quotes, every plan carries the date it was last checked, and the last page is six things to confirm yourself before you book anything.

I take no commission from any hotel or operator. You book everything yourself, in your own name, at the price you can see.
