Guyana, Kaieteur and the Rupununi

The largest single-drop waterfall on earth, rainforest with jaguars in it, and almost no other tourists.

Guyana gets a few thousand leisure visitors a year, which is why it still has rainforest you can walk into and see almost nobody. Eight days takes in Georgetown's decaying wooden grandeur, Kaieteur Falls, a single uninterrupted drop nearly five times the height of Niagara, and the Rupununi savannah, where giant otters and giant anteaters are genuinely findable.

What you get

The whole trip, decided.

Not a list of sights. A route someone has already walked, with the bookings that need doing early flagged, the transfers timed, and the costs written as real ranges instead of a fantasy number.

Why this one

Worth the flight.

  • Kaieteur Falls, the world's largest single-drop waterfall, with no railings and almost no crowd
  • The Iwokrama canopy walkway at dawn, thirty metres up in primary rainforest
  • Giant river otters and black caiman on the Rupununi River
  • Surama, an Amerindian village running its own tourism on its own terms
  • Pepperpot, the national dish, made with cassareep, an Indigenous recipe centuries old

Best months are September, October, November, February, March, April. Expect around $2,800–4,500 per person, excluding international flights for the whole 8 days, excluding flights. The guide breaks that into stay, food, activities and transport so you can see where it goes.

How this stays honest

Checked August 2026

Prices, opening days and entry rules drift, and no written guide can outrun that. So costs are always ranges rather than quotes, every plan carries the date it was last checked, and the last page is six things to confirm yourself before you book anything.

I take no commission from any hotel or operator. You book everything yourself, in your own name, at the price you can see.
