Roatán sits on the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest in the world, and it is one of the cheapest places on earth to learn to dive. This route stays on the Bay Islands, reached by direct flights, and a very different proposition from mainland Honduras, with six days of reef, a day on Utila for whale sharks, and no need to go anywhere else.

What you get

The whole trip, decided.

Not a list of sights. A route someone has already walked, with the bookings that need doing early flagged, the transfers timed, and the costs written as real ranges instead of a fantasy number.

Why this one

Worth the flight.

  • Diving or snorkelling the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, straight off West End
  • Some of the cheapest and best-regarded dive certification anywhere
  • Whale sharks off Utila, which are present year-round and peak in spring
  • West Bay Beach, a genuinely excellent stretch of sand with reef at the end
  • Sunset from a West End dock with the boats coming in

Best months are February, March, April, May, June, July, August. Expect around $1,000–2,000 per person, excluding international flights for the whole 6 days, excluding flights. The guide breaks that into stay, food, activities and transport so you can see where it goes.

How this stays honest

Checked August 2026

Prices, opening days and entry rules drift, and no written guide can outrun that. So costs are always ranges rather than quotes, every plan carries the date it was last checked, and the last page is six things to confirm yourself before you book anything.

I take no commission from any hotel or operator. You book everything yourself, in your own name, at the price you can see.
