Puerto Rico, End to End

Old San Juan, the only rainforest in the US park system, a glowing bay, and the wild west coast.

Puerto Rico packs an absurd amount into 160km: a 500-year-old walled city, a genuine rainforest, one of the brightest bioluminescent bays on earth, and a surf coast that feels like a different country. No passport needed for US travellers, no currency to change, and six days is enough to do it justice.

What you get

The whole trip, decided.

Not a list of sights. A route someone has already walked, with the bookings that need doing early flagged, the transfers timed, and the costs written as real ranges instead of a fantasy number.

Why this one

Worth the flight.

  • Old San Juan at golden hour, when the blue cobbles actually glow
  • El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the US national forest system
  • Kayaking a bioluminescent bay on a moonless night, where every paddle stroke lights up
  • The Luquillo kiosks. Sixty-odd food stands in a row, and the best cheap eating on the island
  • Sunset at Rincón, on the wild Atlantic-facing west coast

Best months are December, January, February, March, April. Expect around $1,400–2,600 per person, excluding flights for the whole 6 days, excluding flights. The guide breaks that into stay, food, activities and transport so you can see where it goes.

How this stays honest

Checked August 2026

Prices, opening days and entry rules drift, and no written guide can outrun that. So costs are always ranges rather than quotes, every plan carries the date it was last checked, and the last page is six things to confirm yourself before you book anything.

I take no commission from any hotel or operator. You book everything yourself, in your own name, at the price you can see.
