Trinidad is the least touristy island in the Caribbean and the most culturally dense, the birthplace of steelpan, calypso and soca, with food shaped by African, Indian, Chinese and Creole cooking. Tobago, twenty minutes away by air, is the beach island. Three days each is the right split, and neither half works without the other.

Why this one
Worth the flight.
- Thousands of scarlet ibis flying into Caroni Swamp at sunset, turning the trees red
- Bake and shark at Maracas Bay, assembled at a condiment bar you build yourself
- Main Ridge Forest Reserve, protected since 1776, the oldest legally protected forest anywhere
- Nylon Pool, a waist-deep sandbar in the middle of the sea off Tobago
- Doubles for breakfast, from a street cart, for about a dollar
Best months are January, February, March, April, May. Expect around $1,000–2,000 per person, excluding international flights for the whole 6 days, excluding flights. The guide breaks that into stay, food, activities and transport so you can see where it goes.
How this stays honest
Checked August 2026
Prices, opening days and entry rules drift, and no written guide can outrun that. So costs are always ranges rather than quotes, every plan carries the date it was last checked, and the last page is six things to confirm yourself before you book anything.
I take no commission from any hotel or operator. You book everything yourself, in your own name, at the price you can see.
